Things we Love!
A living collection of resources, voices, stories, and tools that we genuinely value.

At Honeycomb Educational Advocacy & Support, we’re big believers that knowledge doesn’t only come from policy documents and school meetings. It comes from lived experience, shared stories, trusted professionals, and resources that help families feel less alone and more empowered.

This page is a curated collection of things we return to often-resources we recommend, books that have shaped our thinking, films that spark important conversations, and websites that support families navigating education, disability, advocacy, and wellbeing.

Not everything here will suit every family-and that’s okay. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and know this list will continue to grow.
Movies
These have inspired how Bronnie is as a teacher
Stories matter. These films are ones we come back to because they explore education, belonging, advocacy, behaviour as communication, and what happens when adults choose to see young people rather than label them.

-
Matilda
A reminder that children are not the problem -systems and adults who misuse power are. A favourite for its message about intelligence, justice, and quiet resilience. -
Coach Carter
A powerful look at high expectations paired with genuine care. This film highlights structure, boundaries, and belief - especially for students who are often written off. My most favorite quote that I have previously put around my classroom is-"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us" -
Freedom Writers
A story about trauma-informed teaching before it was a buzzword. It centers relationship, voice, and what happens when educators choose connection over control. (another movie that truly inspired and changed my thinking!) -
Remember the Titans
About leadership, inclusion, and unity in the face of resistance. A reminder that change is uncomfortable-and necessary-and that young people often rise when given the chance
Books
Books we love
Voices that challenge the deficit narrative and centre lived experience.

These books have shaped how we think about disability, education, identity, burnout, and belonging. They’re written by people who live it, research it ethically, or both-and they move the conversation away from “fixing” children toward understanding systems, environments, and humanity.

-
Different, Not Less – Chloe Hayden
An honest, raw, and empowering insight into neurodivergence, masking, and late diagnosis. This book speaks directly to the cost of trying to fit into systems that were never designed with autistic people in mind - and the relief of being seen. -
Unmasked – Ellie Middleton
A powerful exploration of identity, burnout, and unmasking in a world that rewards conformity. Especially validating for teens and adults navigating ADHD, autism, and chronic overwhelm. -
Self-Care for People with ADHD – Sarah Hamdani
Practical, compassionate, and realistic. This book reframes self-care as accessibility, not productivity -acknowledging that traditional “self-care” advice often isn’t built for ADHD brains. -
Learning from Autistic Teachers – Dr Rebecca Wood
Essential reading for educators. This book centres autistic voices within education and challenges schools to rethink inclusion, pedagogy, and professional learning from the inside out. -
We're Not Broken – Eric Garcia
A confronting and necessary look at how systems, policy, and narratives have failed autistic people. This book shifts responsibility away from individuals and squarely onto structures.
Digital/Audio
Websites/Podcasts and online resources we love.
Practical, respectful, and grounded in lived experience.

At Honeycomb Educational Advocacy & Support, we prioritise resources that move beyond theory and into what actually helps-in classrooms, in homes, and in everyday school life. The platforms we share here offer practical strategies, culturally responsive learning, and neuro-affirming approaches that respect children as they are.

These are resources we trust, return to, and recommend regularly to families and educators.
