SCHOOL ADVOCATE + MEETING SUPPORT | BRISBANE

School meeting advocacy that helps you walk in prepared, follow the conversation and ask what matters.
When it is your child being discussed, listening, processing unfamiliar terminology, remembering what you wanted to raise and responding in the moment is a lot to hold in your head at once.
Honeycomb can help you prepare for the meeting and attend alongside you as your school advocate, speaking up around your child's disability, inclusion and the supports that may need to be discussed.

You want to walk out knowing what was actually decided.
You do not want to get halfway home and realise you cannot remember whether something was agreed, suggested or simply mentioned.
You want to know why the meeting is happening, what you need to raise, which questions need an answer and who is responsible for what next.
That is a very reasonable thing to expect from a meeting about your child.

The meeting starts. Suddenly there are six people, fifteen acronyms and the question you planned to ask is nowhere to be found.

School meeting advocacy gives you another person in the room who understands the education context and is there to help keep your child’s needs, your questions and the support being discussed visible.
You might feel intimidated by the number of professionals in the room.
You may understand exactly what is happening for your child, yet struggle to translate it into the language being used by the school.
Perhaps previous meetings have included plenty of discussion and left you with very little certainty about what happens afterwards.
Or you may be carefully wording every concern because you want to raise it clearly without damaging an important relationship with your child’s educators.

You bring the knowledge of your child. I bring education experience and another set of ears to the conversation.
ONE
BEFORE THE MEETING
We start with what has been happening.
You can share the context, the concerns you want addressed, relevant information from professionals and anything you are worried may get lost once the meeting begins.
Together, we can identify the priorities and questions worth taking into the room.
TWO
IN THE MEETING
I attend alongside you as your educational advocate.
That may mean asking for clarification, raising relevant questions, discussing disability, inclusion and possible supports, and helping keep the conversation focused on what your child may need.
I can also slow things down when terminology or process is making it difficult to follow what is being proposed.
THREE
AFTER THE CONVERSATION
The aim is for you to have a stronger understanding of what was discussed, what was agreed and anything that still requires follow-up.
If another type of Honeycomb support would be useful afterwards, we can discuss that separately.

Meeting support can help long before everything reaches breaking point.

Questions parents often have before bringing someone into a school meeting.

MEET BRONNIE
I understand the structure of the meeting and the weight of it.
My teaching background and years working across education and inclusion mean the language, processes and rhythm of school conversations are familiar to me.
My experience as a parent and advocate means I also understand why the exact same conversation feels very different when every decision affects your own child.
The goal is not to take over your meeting.
It is to help you walk into it with preparation and have knowledgeable support beside you while it happens.
